Manchester United ramped up interest in Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy as the summer transfer window approached. The Red Devils eyed the 29-year-old Guinean international to bolster their attacking options under new manager Ruben Amorim. Guirassy became available for around €50 million, a fee that attracted multiple suitors across Europe.
Guirassy joined Dortmund from Stuttgart in 2024 for €17.5 million. He exploded onto the scene with 45 goals in 65 appearances for the Black and Yellows. This tally included a remarkable 30 goals in 30 matches during his final Stuttgart season, where he challenged Harry Kane for the Bundesliga Golden Boot.
This season, Guirassy scored five goals and provided one assist in 10 Bundesliga outings. He started every match, logging 882 minutes with a 6.88 rating. His stats showed 28 shots, 17 on target, and 52 touches in the box.
United sought a reliable goalscorer amid inconsistent forward performances. Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund and Benjamin Sesko have struggled for form, prompting Amorim to prioritize reinforcements. Guirassy’s physicality, aerial ability, and clinical finishing aligned with the Portuguese coach’s tactical vision.
Guirassy represents Guinea internationally, earning caps with consistent contributions. His journey included stints at Lille, Amiens, and Rennes before his Stuttgart breakthrough. Scouts praised his hold-up play and movement off the ball.
United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth led the pursuit, aiming to outbid rivals. The club considers Guirassy a cost-effective alternative to pricier signings like Benjamin Sesko who has not lived up to expectations for the Red Devils. Negotiations could accelerate if Dortmund signaled openness.
