Kylian Mbappe traveled to Paris on Monday for treatment on a knee injury. The Real Madrid forward underwent further medical tests accompanied by members of the club’s medical staff. His entourage confirmed the visit in a statement issued to AFP.
“In agreement with the club, he is undergoing further tests on his knee,” the statement read. “With the aim of optimising his follow-up care and preparing for his comeback. No surgical intervention is being planned at the moment.”
Injury History
Mbappe has struggled with an injury to the external ligament of his left knee since late December 2025. He missed Real Madrid’s Champions League play-off second leg against Benfica last week due to persistent pain during training. Sources close to the player confirmed that the issue has plagued him for several months.
Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa addressed the situation in an interview with broadcaster Movistar late last week. “It was a bit of a consensus between everyone (Mbappe, the coach and the doctors), and we think the best thing is that he stops, that he recovers and comes back at 100 percent,” Arbeloa stated. “It’s not going to be a question of days, it will be a bit longer, but I can’t say how long, hopefully not too long.”
Club Confirmation
Real Madrid issued an official statement confirming the diagnosis and treatment plan. “Following tests carried out on our player Kylian Mbappe by French medical specialists, under the supervision of Real Madrid’s Medical Services, the diagnosis of a sprain in his left knee has been confirmed, as well as the suitability of the conservative treatment he is currently undergoing,” the club announced. “His progress will be monitored.”
Upcoming Fixtures
Mbappe has been ruled out of Monday’s La Liga match against Getafe. He is also expected to miss Friday’s fixture against Celta Vigo. Furthermore, his participation in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Manchester City on March 11 remains uncertain.
The French national team has scheduled two friendly matches in the United States at the end of March. France will face Brazil in Boston on March 26 and Colombia in Washington three days later. The team’s first World Cup match is scheduled for June 16 against Senegal.
Performance Statistics
Despite the injury, Mbappe has scored 38 goals in 33 appearances for Real Madrid this season. His entourage insisted that no disagreement exists between the player, his club and the French national team regarding treatment. All parties share the goal of ensuring Mbappe returns to full fitness ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
