Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano resigned from his position. The departure took effect immediately. Consequently, the MLS club confirmed the news on Tuesday.
Inter Miami officials issued a brief statement after the announcement. They thanked Javier Mascherano for his service. Additionally, they noted the decision came after mutual discussions.
Mascherano Explains His Choice
Javier Mascherano addressed the situation directly. He said “After careful reflection I have decided to resign as head coach of Inter Miami with immediate effect.” He added “I want to thank the players, staff, fans and the club for everything we achieved together during my time here.”
Tenure Ends Abruptly
Javier Mascherano took charge of Inter Miami in late 2024. Furthermore, he led the team through several competitive campaigns. However, the resignation marked a sudden end to his contract which ran until 2027.
The resignation left Inter Miami without a permanent head coach. As a result, assistant coaches assumed temporary control of training and matches. Meanwhile, the club started the process to appoint a successor.
