Aaron Ramsey announced his retirement from professional football. The 35 year old Welshman made the decision after careful consideration. Consequently, he brought an end to a two decade playing career that featured more than 600 appearances for club and country.
Ramsey Shares Emotional Statement
Wales captain Aaron Ramsey issued his retirement announcement on social media. He said “This has not been an easy decision to make. After a lot of consideration I have decided to retire from football.”
Additionally, he continued “Firstly I want to start with Wales. It has been my privilege to wear the Welsh shirt and experience so many incredible moments in it.”
Ramsey Begins At Cardiff City
Aaron Ramsey started his football journey at boyhood club Cardiff City. Furthermore, he became the club’s youngest ever first team player. As a result, he impressed scouts from major European sides early in his development.
Arsenal signed Aaron Ramsey in 2008 for five million pounds. The Welsh midfielder joined at age 17. Consequently, he gained valuable first team experience under manager Arsene Wenger.
Injury Disrupts Progress
However, Aaron Ramsey suffered a broken leg in 2010 during a match against Stoke City. Moreover, the injury kept him out for several months. Subsequently, he completed loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City to rebuild his fitness.
Aaron Ramsey re-established himself as a regular at Arsenal. Additionally, he scored decisive goals in FA Cup finals. Furthermore, he contributed to three FA Cup triumphs during his 11 seasons with the club. As a result, he recorded over 360 appearances and 64 goals for Arsenal.
Transfer To Juventus
Aaron Ramsey moved to Juventus in 2019. The Italian club secured the Serie A title in his debut season. Consequently, he added major silverware to his collection despite limited game time.
Later, Aaron Ramsey joined Nice in France. Moreover, he returned to Cardiff City in 2023. Subsequently, he briefly acted as caretaker manager before his release in 2025. Finally, he had a short spell with Mexican side Pumas UNAM before becoming a free agent last year.
