Assailants on motorcycles ambushed Ecuadorian footballer Mario Pineida in broad daylight. They opened fire outside a butcher shop in the Samanes area of Guayaquil. Pineida died instantly from his wounds.
Witnesses reported the attack targeted three people. Pineida accompanied his mother and another woman at the time. The gunfire claimed Pineida’s life and that of one other victim, while the third person sustained injuries.
Police launched an immediate investigation into the incident. Authorities confirmed the 33-year-old defender as the primary victim. They linked the shooting to escalating gang violence in the city.
