Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool forward, announced on Tuesday that he will leave the Premier League club at the end of the current season. The 33-year-old Egyptian released a video statement on social media confirming his decision to depart Anfield despite having one year remaining on his contract.

Salah Confirms Exit in Emotional Statement

Salah posted a video to his official accounts on March 24, 2026. In the footage, he addressed supporters directly and confirmed the end of his nine-year tenure with the Reds.

“Hello, everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season,” Salah stated. He added, “I never imagined how deeply this club, city and people would become part of my life.”

The announcement shocked supporters because Salah had signed a two-year contract extension in April 2025. That agreement was scheduled to run until June 2027.

Contract Situation Complicates Departure

Liverpool officials now face negotiations regarding the early termination of Salah’s deal. The forward earned approximately £400,000 per week, which made him the highest-paid player in the squad.

Furthermore, Saudi Arabian clubs had maintained interest in signing Salah. Al-Hilal, Al-Qadisah and Neom all previously explored moves for the winger. Consequently, a transfer to the Saudi Pro League appeared likely for the summer window.

Slot Responds to Star’s Decision

Arne Slot, the Liverpool manager, addressed the media regarding Salah’s announcement. The Dutch coach had previously defended Salah during a goal drought earlier in the 2025-26 campaign.

Slot stated that Salah had set “so, so, so high” standards for himself. He noted that the forward’s temporary dip in form resulted from impossibly high benchmarks rather than declining ability.
